Ingredients
For the Cake:
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup hot brewed coffee
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (Nestlé Toll House preferred)
For the Ganache:
1 cup heavy cream
8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
Topping:
1 to 1½ cups Nestlé Toll House chocolate chunks
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch square cake pan.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture in batches, alternating with buttermilk.
- Stir in hot coffee, then fold in chocolate chips.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
- Cool in pan 10 minutes, then transfer to wire rack.
- Heat cream for ganache, pour over chopped chocolate, let sit 2 minutes, then stir until smooth.
- Pour ganache over cooled cake, letting it drip down the sides.
