Ingredients

Scale

For the Hamburger Steaks:

1 ½ pounds ground beef (80/20)

½ cup breadcrumbs

1 egg

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tbsp oil or butter (for cooking)

For the Onion Gravy:

1 large onion, sliced into rings

2 tbsp butter

2 tbsp all-purpose flour

2 cups beef broth

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

Chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently and form into 4 oval patties.
  2. Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties on both sides until browned (about 4–5 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and add butter and sliced onions. Cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring until golden.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir to coat. Cook for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Gradually add beef broth while stirring. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 3–5 minutes to thicken.
  6. Return patties to skillet, cover, and simmer on low for 10–15 minutes until fully cooked.
  7. Garnish with parsley and serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles
